10 delicacies to prepare during Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Mahotsav celebrations are all about new beginnings, a sense of togetherness and happiness. The spirit of enjoyment takes over as everyone loudly cheers Ganpati Bappa, Morya. And like many other festivals, this festival demands delicacies, especially sweet delights.

Ganesh Chaturthi has its own uniqueness and people offer various things as Prasadam. Here’s a list of few things you can try out this year at home for your low-key Ganesh Celebrations.

  1. Ukadi Che Modak/ Thengai Poornam/ Ulutham Poornam Kozhukattai
    This sweet is known to be Ganesha’s one of the favorites. These modaks are made using rice flour. There are various other modaks made too during these times with different fillings too.
  2. Motichoor Laddoo
    This delicious sweet is the most common prasad offered to Lord Ganesha. Motichoor Laddoo is a famous dish and is enjoyed by everyone. The irresistible appearance and the aroma of the ghee are enough to entice anyone.
  3. Puran Poli/Vedhmi
    This is a very well-known Maharashtrian household dish. The sweet flatbread with delicious stuffing is bound to enrich your tastebuds with the tempting flavors.
  4. Churma Laddoo
    This Gujarati dish is one of the most lovable sweet recipes. It is a sweet preparation made from jaggery, ghee, and coarsely ground whole wheat flour.
  5. Sheera
    This is another staple Maharashtrian delicacy that is filled with everything good and yummy. It is usually offered during Satyanarayan Pooja.
  6. Shrikhand
    Shrikhand is another famous Maharashtrian sweet which is a popular and delicious sweet dish. It can be made with fruits too for varied flavors. 
  7. Karanji/ Gujiya/Ghugra
    This is a traditional sweet that is commonly prepared by Maharashtrians. Karanji is a crunchy sweet that is filled with the goodness of coconut, jaggery, semolina, and spices.
  8. Coconut Laddoo
    Add some coconut flavor in this festival and make coconut laddoos which are super easy to make and extremely delicious to eat. This lip-smacking dessert recipe is a treat for those with a sweet tooth. 
  9. Anarsa/Apoopa
    This is yet another sweet dish relished during the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival. It is a snack made of rice powder, jaggery, poppy seeds, and ghee.
  10. Patholi
    These are steamed rice rolls that are stuffed with fresh coconut and jaggery. It is steamed in fresh turmeric leaves which makes this dish’s steaming technique very special.
