100% of households in Sandha village of Shinor have access to clean tap water

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Government of Gujarat, work has been done by the government to provide water supply to the villagers in connection with the World Water Day celebrated on March 22. Sandha, a faraway village in Shinor taluka in the Vadodara district, is a successful example of the government’s ‘water from tap’ concept of every household.

Sandha village was awarded the ‘Nirmal’ village by then President Abdul Kalam with the President’s Award in 2010 and was declared a healthy and clean village by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2012.

Sarpanch of Sandha village Sujata Patel stated that 100% of the houses in this village get clean water through the tap. Earlier the women had to go far to fetch water but now every house has a clean water tap.

According to the details given by Sandeep Patel, a resident of Sandha village, earlier 132 houses had tap connections which have now increased to 186 houses. Earlier, there was a water tank of 20,000 liters which has now been increased to 60,000 liters. WASMO has provided taps in every house at a cost of Rs 11 lakh and with a population of Rs 1,10,000. The water supply department has also made arrangements for the pipeline, valve system, and rainwater storage in the village.

Clean water is also provided in Sandha village school and Anganwadi under this scheme. Two wells have been constructed in the village for drinking water for the cattle which are now filled with water.

Vadodara district has connected more than 3 lakh households in rural areas with the Prime Minister-inspired tap water scheme. Now, by providing tap connection to the remaining 3 thousand households, the district has come very close to 100 percent successful achievement.
