Keeping animals comes under Wildlife Act is an offence and still people keep them in captivity. Gujarat SPCA and Vadodara Forest Department freed around 101 animals from captivity.
In the last two months, Raj Bhavsar from GSPCA along with Forest Department team received information about the animals kept under captivity at homes in areas like Ajwa road, Kishanwadi, Baranpura, Karelibaug, Tandalja, Tarsali, Soma Talav, Wadi, Panigate and freed around 101 animals and birds.
Raj Bhavsar and his team of volunteers along with the help of RFO Nidhi Dave’s Forestry team, freed different types of parrots, red-mouthed monkeys, Singapore turtles, Star turtles and one tortoise.
The wildlife comes under different schedules including parrots under Schedule- 4, Red-mouthed Monkey under Schedule 2, Water tortoise is included in Schedule (1) and Star tortoise is included in Schedule 4 and all these are in accordance with various sections of Wildlife Act (1972) which leads to 2 years imprisonment and Rs. 25,000 fine.
All these wildlife are under the control of RFO Nidhi Dave of Social Forestry Department and further investigation is underway.
