Vadodara railway police arrests two accused with regard to theft of jewellery worth Rs.4.75 crores

Vadodara’s railway police arrested two accused from West Bengal with regard to a theft worth rupees 4.75 crores. The jewellery was stolen from an Angadiya firm employee’s bag in the reserve coach of an express train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.

The case was registered at Nadiad Railway Police Station. As per details given by Western Railway SP Parikshita Rathod, on April 8, an employee of the Angadiya firm was traveling in the Saurashtra Mail Express train. He fell asleep after the train reached Bharuch station. He woke up on arrival at Mahemdabad railway station and was shocked to see his bag missing.

The railway police began an investigation into the matter and formed separate teams to trace the accused. Along with examining the reservation chart, CCTV footage from all railway stations between Mumbai and Ahmedabad was also examined. With the help of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the police found out that the accused were going to West Bengal after committing the crime. After tracing the accused, the police team went to Canning in West Bengal and investigated further. SUB Railway police officers dressed as locals, kept a watch and arrested the accused from their homes.

One of the accused, Bijen Montu Haldar, had been running a food stall for the last 20 years in the Bhuleshwar area of Mumbai. His aid, Ashok Sarkar had been working as a spot boy for the last 20 years in Mumbai. SP said that Bijen had planned the loot.

The police recovered jewellery worth Rs.4.65 crore and are now seeking their custody for further investigation.
