350 contract drivers of VMSS on strike for not getting adequate pay

As many as 350 contract drivers at the Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan(VMSS)’s vehicle pool went on strike alleging for not getting adequate pay. All the employees submitted the vehicle keys to the contractor’s office. In view of the strike, the contract supervisor gave them assurance to resolve their issue as soon as possible.

Employees of the VMSS vehicle pool at Bhutdizampa in Vadodara went on strike saying their salaries were deducted. They submitted the keys inside the office and all operations came to a standstill in view of the strike. Jivanbhai, the supervisor of the contract company, rushed to the spot and assured a quick solution after hearing the employee’s representations.

One driver said that they have been working on a contract basis for years and work eight hours a day. But they alleged that the salary was being deducted by the contractor. They also alleged that Rs 700 per month was being deducted from their salary and employees are being exploited by the contractor.

Another driver said that they have been working for the last 14 years. When they enrolled in the job, their salary was Rs. 1200 and today it is Rs. 9000. But they put allegations that their salary is being deducted by the contract company supervisors. They approached the supervisor of the contract company but their issues were not resolved. Now they plan to approach the Municipal Commissioner for their pleas.

The supervisor rushed to the spot and tried to settle the matter. He said the employees’ allegations are false and even so they will listen to their questions and resolve them as soon as possible.
