400 Rapid testing kits arrived in Vadodara, but this test is not completely reliable

RT-PCR(Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) is a standard test done to detect COVID-19.

Currently SSG has the capacity to do approx 250 tests daily. This test cannot be done in any normal lab, this test needs a lab with specific infrastructure, equipment and trained lab technicians. One cycle of test takes 4-5 hours to give a result.
400 Rapid Testing Kits have arrived in Vadodara, trials will start from tomorrow.

Rapid Assessment Test – It gives result in 20-30 minutes but the major drawback of this test is it detects antibodies which give a probable result and is not accurate while RT-PRC test detects the virus giving the result with utmost accuracy.

The process of increasing RT-PCR test capacity at SSG to 350-500 is under process. Soon RT-PCR testing lab will be operational at Gotri Hospital and two private labs have sought permission to do RT-PCR tests.
So overall capacity will increase to 1000 tests, this will help to reduce the backlog.
