VMC Health Department inspects canteens of hospitals treating corona patients

Corona patient numbers have crossed the 10,000 mark in the city. Meanwhile, complaints were raised that quality items were not available in the canteen of Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara.The Health Department Food teams of Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan (VMSS) carried out checking and took samples of various food items from the canteen and sent them to the laboratory for examination.

4 teams were formed and checked a total of 10 hospitals including Gotri Hospital as well as hospitals treating Corona patients.

An investigation by food teams revealed that most of the canteens lacked cleanliness. Following which, a notice was given to the canteen administrators as per schedule-4 and strongly urged canteen administrators to maintain cleanliness. Also, the teams specially checked about whether the rules of Covid-19 are followed by the canteen administrators. The teams collected samples of various items made in the canteen as well as various items available and sent for checking.

In addition, the food safety officers checked canteen’s license, the quality of the food in the kitchen, and whether the customers and administrators in the canteen maintain social distance, wear masks.

The designated Officer and Additional Health Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Dr. Mukesh Vaidya said that all the canteens in government, private as well as trust hospitals treating corona patients would be inspected periodically. Strict actions will be taken against the canteen administrators located in the hospitals which do not follow the rules of Covid-19.
