Treatment of mucormycosis at Sayaji Hospital

Three patients have been treated at Sayaji Hospital for mucormycosis, and have defeated the deadly disease and went back home.

So far 5 more people have died from the deadly disease and more than 250 people are still being treated at Sayaji, Gotri, and private hospitals in Vadodara. Many people have lost their eyes and many have recovered after treatment.

Three female patients from Vadodara, Bharuch, and Ankleshwar were discharged from Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara on Monday. Rajni Wadekar, Nazma Patel, and Darshana Patel left the hospital after a long treatment of mucormycosis.

Daughter-in-law of 57-year-old Rajni Wadekar said that after corona her mother-in-law had Mucormycosis and was rushed to Sayaji hospital for treatment. Her treatment was going on for the last 1.5 months and one of her eyes has also been removed. She appealed that sitting at home is not going to cure the disease. If symptoms appear one should come to the hospital immediately.

She added that although one eye of her mother-in-law was removed, she survived the deadly disease.

Dr. Anand Palash who is treating patients with mucormycosis at Sayaji Hospital said “Contact a doctor immediately when symptoms appear and if treatment is started in time, there is no need to remove the patient’s eye. Every day more than 3 surgeries are being performed daily in the hospital and efforts are being made to save patients.
