Food dept conduct checking at sweet and farsan shops, 283 kg inedible items destroyed

In view of the upcoming Ganesh Mahotsav and the pandemic, the Food Department of Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan checked the manufacturers and vendors selling sweets and farsans in different areas. Inedible items were destroyed during the checking and punitive action was also taken against the violators.

A total of 33 samples were taken from parlors, shops, 15 hotel restaurants, and 180 larries selling milk and cold drinks. Samples were collected by the teams and sent to the laboratory for testing. While 283 kg of inedible food was destroyed. Apart from this, 6 schools of Vadodara city were registered under Eat Right Challenge and Eat Smart City.

As per the instructions of the Vadodara Municipal Commissioner, the health department formed separate teams and carried out inspections at manufacturers, malls, confectionery shops, hotels-restaurants, and food trucks selling sweets and farsan in different parts of the city. From 31/08/21 to 08/09/21 inspection was carried out in areas like Karelibagh, Alkapuri, Sama Road, Fatehgunj, Manjalpur, Makarpura, Chokhandi, ST Depot, OP Road, Ellora Park, Diwalipura, Uma Char Rasta, Warasia, Mandvi, Champaner Darwaja, Ajwa Road, Harni Road, Waghodia-Dabhoi Ring Road and others.

A total of 33 samples of Saffron Jalebi, Flour Bread, Sweet Mava, loose ghee, Saffron Peda, Mohan Thal, Mango Juice, Rose Barfi, Bundi, Besan (Loose), Aloo Patti (Prepared Food), Moti Chur Ladu, Dal Palak (Prepared Food), Dry Manchurian (Prepared Food), Chocolate Modak, Kesari Modak, Khoya (Loose), samples of cow’s milk and Cream Milk (Amul Gold) were taken from milk selling centers and parlors. The samples have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory for analysis. Also, 260 kg of inedible farsan, prepared food as well as 8 liters of inedible color, 10 liters of Panipuri water, and 5 kg of paper were destroyed on the spot.

Simultaneously at Uma Char Rasta, the Waghodia Road area was inspected for the Tobacco Control Act and a fine of Rs 800 was levied under the law. While the registration of schools under Eat Right Challenge and Eat Smart City in which 6 schools located in Bhayali, Karelibaug, Manjalpur, Bagikhana areas of Vadodara city have been registered with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
