Haji Bilal, also known as Bilal Ismail Abdul Masjid, believed to be the mastermind of the Godhra Sabarmati train incident, was in Vadodara Central Jail serving his life sentence and died in the S.S.G Hospital during treatment for prolonged illness.
ACP Alpesh Rajgor said, “Haji Bilal, a resident of Godhra, was serving a life sentence in Vadodara Central Jail in connection with the Godhra Sabarmati train incident was admitted to the S.S.G Hospital on 22nd November due to bad health, died ”.
The ACP added, “For the last four years, he was having health issues and was getting treatment for bad health. After the inquest panchnama in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, his body was sent to postmortem. Presently, on the surface, the cause of his death is due to ill-health, but the exact reason for death will come out after the postmortem. His family members rushed to the S.S.G Hospital after his death was reported.”
