Vigilance and Precaution: SSG Hospital, Vadodara maternity ward upgraded its facilities to buckle up for the third wave of COVID-19

In view of the possible third wave of COVID-19, the maternity ward of SSG Hospital, Vadodara has taken precautionary measures to ensure proper pre and post-natal treatment of infected mothers. It has been updated for better antenatal treatment and safe delivery. Learning from the previous two waves of pandemic, these precautionary steps have been taken to tackle the challenges of potential third wave.

“Completely understanding the situation and taking action will definitely help in meeting the challenges in the third wave”, stated Dr. Ashish Gokhale, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, SSG Hospital, Vadodara. The facilities include essential amenities like labour room, OT, isolation ward, ICU, and trained staff.

He also mentioned the two COVID-19 variants, Delta and Omicron, it is observed that there is no significant difference in the symptomatology and protocol of both. The prescribed protocols for the prevention of the infection are the same for both the variants and so far, not a single mother has been infected. He further said, we have a 15+ beds facility separately in the basement of the maternity ward. We continue to serve patients with covid and non-covid deliveries with a team of experienced and dedicated doctors, nurses, and support staff.

It was observed that during the first two COVID-19 waves, there were almost no facilities for infected mothers in private hospitals. Only SSG Hospital and GMERS Hospital, Gotri provides free treatment to pregnant women. Till now, approximately 6500+ deliveries have been conducted in both hospitals.
