Electric Commercial Vehicle Production Plant To Be Set Up At Kutch-Bhuj In Gujarat

Electric vehicles are replacing fuel-based vehicles due to global warming and the fuel price hike, making it impossible for middle-class families or people from other professions to afford fuel-based automobiles. The state government took up the initiative and signed MoU for setting up Electric Commercial Vehicle Production Plant with US-based Triton Electric Vehicle LLC. Triton Electric Vehicle will start the plant in the current financial year 2022-23 with an investment of Rs 1200 crore and a total of Rs. 10,800 total investment. MoUs were concluded in the presence of CM Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar for the establishment of this plant which would provide direct and indirect employment opportunities to about 10,000 people.

On behalf of the Gujarat Government, Additional Chief Secretary of Industry Department Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta and Founder and CEO of Triton Electric Vehicle Himanshu Patel signed the MoU and exchanged MoUs. Triton Electric Vehicle will launch a plant with an annual production capacity of 50,000 trucks at its 645-acre plant. Not only that, but they will also set up in-house facilities like chassis and cabin, robotic paint shop, chassis sub-assembly, and quality assurance and material testing lab.

The USA-based company Triton Electric Vehicle specializes in the production of lithium battery cells and electric vehicle controllers. The best long-range electric vehicles with world-class safety and functionalities are being developed by Triton. Triton manufactures electric semi-trucks, SUVs, electric sedans, defense electric vehicles, and electric rickshaws in the USA. They have signed an MoU with the Gujarat government regarding their plans to set up a plant in Bhuj, Gujarat.

The State Government will assist in the necessary permits, approvals, and registration procedures for the establishment of this plant in accordance with the existing policy rules. Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Kailasanathan, Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Industry Commissioner Rahul Gupta, and representatives of Triton Electric Vehicle were also present during the signing of the MoU.
