Parul Sevashram Hospital Initiates A Tobacco De-Addiction and Cessation Center On World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed every year on May 31. This annual event educates the public about the dangers of smoking and what people worldwide can do to assert their right to health while also protecting future generations. Aligning with this year’s World No Tobacco Day 2022 theme “Tobacco is killing us and our planet”; the department of Psychiatry at Parul Sevashram Hospital (Parul Institute of Medical Sciences & Research) has initiated the “Tobacco De-Addiction and Cessation Center”.

Tobacco causes about 8 million deaths each year; thus, Parul Sevashram hospital is aiming to provide counseling by an expert team of doctors along with a holistic care approach. This center shall initiate awareness programs to help tobacco addicts quit, also leading them and their families to live normal healthy disease-free lives for a prosperous tomorrow as mentioned by Dr. Geetika Madan Patel the Medical Director at Parul Sevashram Hospital. Governments all across the globe have launched extremely efficient AD campaigns on every single article of media they can find, from TVs to Radios, from movies to cigarette packets.

Parul University has banned the consumption of tobacco products within the campus, also discourages its students and staff from consuming it outside, and regularly holds seminars, and events to join the war against tobacco. Shunning the use of tobacco will not only prevent fatal chronic diseases like COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and lung and mouth cancers but also help the world inch closer to sustainable development goals.
