‘Suno’, ‘Bolo’, ‘Likho’, and ‘Dekho’ with Bhashini: A National Public Digital Platform for languages

Under Digital India, various services are being made available to the common citizens of India at home. One of them is Bhashini, a digital platform that aims to build a National Public Digital Platform for languages to develop services and products for citizens through leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies. This basically acts as an orchestrator to unify and align a large diverse network across government, industry, academia, research groups, and start-ups to bring all their contributions into an open repository.

On the occasion of the inauguration of ‘Digital India Week-2022’, various digital applications were dedicated to the country by PM  Modi from Gandhinagar, out of which one was ‘Bhashini.’

Bhashini is been fed with a total of six constitutional Indian languages, including Gujarati, out of which work on 11 languages has been completed, while work on the remaining 11 languages is in progress. The input in the portal can also be done by donating the language www.bhashini.gov.in. Hence, PM Modi insists the citizens give their part of linguistic knowledge through this portal.

With the concept of ‘Suno’, ‘Bolo’, ‘Likho’, and ‘Dekho’ (Listen, Speak, Write and Watch) anyone with the knowledge can add their language.

Manoj Kumar of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) says that an experimental application called Bhashavars has been developed by the Ministry. Artificial Intelligence-AI models will be created by researching and developing data collected through experiments which will be very useful for startups and industry development.
