But we all have planned for a road trip on bike or jeep or maybe just a tourist trip to that location. But this is India’s first- frozen lake marathon is been organized on Pangong Tso. The maiden edition of the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon is scheduled to take place on 20 February 2023.
Pangong Tso is the highest altitude salty lake, located at the height of 13,862 ft. The famous climax of Aamir Khan’s film 3 Idiots was shot here and that is how it became a famous tourist spot.
Apart from a famous tourist spot, Panging Tso holds a very strategic importance because the 30% of the lake is located in India and 70% in China rather Aksai Chin making it a very sensitive area in the point of national security.
This event is happening first time in India, where the oxygen levels will be low and higher the altitude, the more difficult it will be to breathe, so whoever is participating will have an lifetime best experience. There have been marathon before on frozen lakes in Norway and Russia. The organizers are also inviting people who wish to walk for a cause as they wish to spread awareness about climate change through sports. This is a 21-kilometre-long marathon and it is nicknamed as ‘The Last Run’.
