RMC’s libraries serve as a modernized hub of knowledge and learning

In the bustling and culturally-rich city of Rajkot, the Municipal Corporation-run libraries have been a beacon of knowledge and learning, leaving a positive impact on the lives of its citizens. The month of August 2023 saw a rather impressive turnout, with a total of 33,688 individuals benefiting from these libraries. What’s even more encouraging is that 744 new members eagerly joined this intellectual community during the same month.

The city’s night reading room; a sanctuary for students burning the midnight oil, has been a crucial asset. In a single month, around 3,901 students and staff have made use of this facility. Later however, the numbers went up, with 414 new members joining the rest of these night owls.

Recently, a new library was opened in the East Zone, welcoming around 7,950 visitors within just a month of operation. This rather commendable response demonstrates the city’s thirst for intellectual nourishment.

Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) manages several libraries, including the Smt. Prabhadevi.J. Narayan Pustakalaya, Dattopant Thengadi Pustakalaya, Babubhai Vaidya Library, and many others. These libraries have collectively opened their doors to thousands of eager readers.

Notably, during the course of a month, 800 books were acquired to meet the demands of the avid readers. Additionally, nine new publications spanning various subjects, including children’s literature, Gujarati literature, novels, and material geared towards competitive exams, were made available to cater to the diverse interests of the city’s residents. Furthermore, around 150 different types of toys, puzzles, games, and more were issued to enrich the learning experience of young children.

The night reading room for students stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to education. With extended hours of operation, students can utilize this valuable resource until 11 pm, allowing them to harness the power of learning at their convenience.

In a bid to enrich the reading experience, 807 magazines were procured during the month of August. These endeavors underline the dedication of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation libraries to maximize their offerings for the benefit of the city’s residents.

All in all, these libraries have become more than just repositories of books; they are vibrant centers of learning and growth.
