Bibliophile Ketanbhai sells free books in Rajkot

Reading nourishes our brain and assures mental well-being. Even if the portion of a boom amount that we spend on food and clothes goes to buying books, we would raise our chances of moving towards the enlightenment. A passionate reader would then help others in awakening their spiritual quotient.

Rajkot is proud to house one such person, Ketanbhai who delivers books free of cost without thinking about his profit or loss. He says, “People have stopped reading” which in a way would have an adverse impact on the society. This avid book reader has come up with a novel solution to inspire and motivate more people to read. He is currently selling books near the race course. He makes sure that every book that he sells has a slogan written on the back saying, “Books are read and ideas are shared.” We are aware of the fact that screen time has taken place of reading. This slogan is to persuade more and more people to read.

Ketanbhai is giving people books to read for free. When anyone comes to buy a book at his store, he simply charges the token amount as a deposit on the original price of the book. Post they are done reading, they are given their deposit money back. He takes the deposit to ensure the good condition of books.

A campaign ‘Vichaar Corner’ has been launched by an organization in Mehsana since 2018. Ketanbhai loved the idea of this campaign and he imitated the same campaign in Rajkot. He believes that reading would help us get rid of the problems that we are facing in the society and would give us positive solutions for the betterment of the society.

Every Sunday evening near the multi- storied Bhavan at the Race Course Ring Road, one would find the bibliophile Ketanbhai and his wife selling books from 6- 8 pm. They carry approximately 100- 150 books from all genres which also includes children’s books.
