Matthew Perry: The comedy maestro behind Chandler Bing

Matthew Perry famously known as Chandler Bing from the sit-com series ‘Friends’ aired from 1994 to 2004, found dead today morning at his home. This heartbreaking news rekindled memories of our beloved King of Sarcasm, Chandler Bing, from the classic ‘Friends.’

“I’m not so good with the advice… can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?”

 

A look back at his career:

Matthew Perry, born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, embarked on his journey to stardom through gradual steps. His early career featured roles in ’80s sitcoms like “Charles in Charge” and “Silver Spoons.” Later, he assumed a leading role in the Fox series “Second Chance,” where Kiel Martin originally portrayed Charles Russell, sent from 2011 to 1987 to guide his younger self, Chazz, played by Perry. The show transformed into “Boys Will Be Boys,” with Perry leading for its one-season run.

In his early TV career, Perry made guest appearances in shows like “Growing Pains,” “Highway to Heaven,” “Empty Nest,” “Who’s the Boss?” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” On the big screen, he shared the spotlight with Bruce Willis in “The Whole Nine Yards” and its sequel, and starred in films such as “Fools Rush In,” “Almost Heroes,” “Three to Tango,” and “Serving Sara.” Later in his career, he took the helm in short-lived TV series, including “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Mr. Sunshine,” “Go On,” and a 2015 revival of “The Odd Couple,” which spanned three seasons.

In 1994, at just 24 years old, Perry catapulted to fame as Chandler Bing on the iconic TV show “Friends.” Alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, Perry remained a key part of the beloved comedy for ten seasons. “Friends” emerged as one of the 1990s’ most legendary sitcoms, cementing his status as a gifted performer.

Friends stands as a benchmark for portraying sarcasm better than any other series or movie. Chandler Bing single-handed led incorporation of comedic element in the dramatic storyline of a show by the epic delivery of inappropriate dialogues, sarcastic remarks. Being one of his own kind, Chandler made awkward men feel more acknowledged.
