Parul University Achieves Historic Recognition as the First University to Earn Water Credits
Parul University, a NAAC A++ accredited University, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first university to earn water credits for its sustainability efforts. Through its 3.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), the university has been awarded 1,122,819 Registered Offset Units (RoUs) by the Universal Water Registry (UWR), a platform enabling voluntary trading of carbon and water credits via globally recognized standards and blockchain technology.
This project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), addressing urban wastewater challenges by recycling water for non-potable uses like irrigation and industrial processes. By treating wastewater to high standards, Parul University is not only mitigating water pollution but also setting a benchmark in responsible water management.
Parul University has been continuously making strides towards achieving sustainability by safeguarding the health & wellbeing of people and the environment. Parul University’s sustainable practices also extend to biogas generation, solar energy production, and e-waste management in collaboration with UNICARE. With a Platinum ranking in international green initiatives, the university integrates environmental consciousness into its curriculum, fostering innovative solutions and community impact in alignment with all 17 SDGs.
“This remarkable achievement is a reflection of our commitment towards sustainability and innovative practices. We are honored to set a new standard for sustainable development through such practices and this recognition motivates us to further push the boundaries and drive impactful changes,” said Dr. Devanshu Patel, President of Parul University.
The Universal Water Registry, launched in 2021, supports such initiatives by enabling the issuance of verifiable credits for measurable environmental actions. It adheres to ISO 14064 standards and uses blockchain for transparency and credibility, aligning with UNFCCC methodologies. Through this platform, Parul University has cemented its legacy as a leader in sustainability, paving the way for a greener and more responsible future.
