This World Literacy Day, we Rotaractors, from the Rotaract Club of Vadodara planned to celebrate it by spreading awareness on the importance of literacy. On the 8th of September 2013 we went to two anganwadis near Bal Bhawan and Station Road. The anganwadis had 75 children in total. We distributed kits consisting of 2 pencils, erasers and a scale. The kits were provided by the Rotaract District 3060. Along with the kits, Rotaract Club of Vadodara also provided notebooks and cupcakes. Then we went to the Olakh Foundation where 40 children were given pens, notebooks and cupcakes provided by the Club. 17 volunteers from the Rotaract Club of Vadodara took up the noble cause. The volunteers also played games with the children and had a friendly interaction with all of them. There was also a discussion on the importance of literacy in our lives. Overall similar activities were undertaken by the clubs from Rotaract District 3060 covering Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra. It was an overwhelming experience for all the Rotaractors and we consider our aim to be fulfilled for this World Literacy Day.
