A punishment worth saving environment!

A 21 year old case came to a judgement with the solution of sapling plantation. The iconic step was ordered by Vadodara’s First Class Judicial Magistrate Court against the accused involved in releasing harmful effluents to water, hence polluting the environment.
The judgement comes after when the partnered owners, PR Thakkar and BR Thakkar’s factory Gujarat Woollen Felt Mills was inspected by the officials of Gujarat Pollution Control Board. Inspection resulted, the company had been disposing their effluents beyond the permissible levels. A complaint was registered against the Thakkar’s in April 1997 under the section 23 of Water Pollution and Control of Pollution Act.
The Judicial Magistrate Court has finally resolved the matter. It has issued a fine of rupees 15000 to both the accused parties and has also asked them to sow 300 saplings in Vadodara. In the first year, they’ve been ordered to mandatorily plant 100 saplings and complete the count. Apart from planting, they have to maintain them by watering and manuring religiously. Adding to that, they even have to present plant pictures within the first 10 days of every month to the court. In case of failing in their ordered task, they’d be ordered to serve simple imprisonment for one month.
