Maid steals jewllery worth Rs33 lakh

Sunita, a domestic helper stole the diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 33 lakh and Rs 50,000 cash on Tuesday afternoon at residential apartment “Exotica 2” in Vasna Bhayali. She was hired a day before the theft by a city-based businessman Mukul Ajmera who owns an engineering company at Makarpura GIDC.
When Zarina, one of the cooks at his place, reached the house for work at evening, she saw the door open. The husband and wife were away while their class eight daughter was sleeping in her room. She immediately called his wife Sujata and informed her that their house was open and that no one was present. When Zarina called out for their daughter, she came out but Sunita was missing.
The daughter went to her parents’ room to look for her and found that the closets were open and Sunita was missing. She looked inside it only to find ornaments and cash missing.
Fearing that Sunita had stolen their precious belongings, the couple registered the case at Gotri police station.
Mukul Ajmera had brought his jewellery from the bank lockers for Diwali but couldn’t place it back due to holidays. The stolen jewellery included a diamond set, a pair of solitaire diamond earring, a diamond ring, a gold set, gold bangles and earrings.
As per police, Ajmera had not taken any details of Sunita before hiring her but are trying to trace her.
The cops also questioned people staying nearby housing schemes but no woman called Sunita lived there. They are also cross-verifying their list of history-sheeters.
Adding more to it, Sunita had approached the family for work four months back. But they did not hire her as they didn’t need any domestic help. She again went to them for work and was hired.
Cops have also prepared a sketch of the accused woman.
