Facebook waives off fee on fundraiser started for kin of Pulwama victims by Barodian

Barodian Viveik Patel, who now stays in Virginia, USA was so moved by the Pulwama tragedy that he started a Facebook fundraiser to raise money for the families of the victims of the Pulwama tragedy.

Patel started a personal fundraiser that managed to raise around Rs 7,31,14,648 ($1,051,400) to contribute to the kin of the soldiers who were martyred in the Pulwama tragedy.

Since many Indians living abroad were unable to contribute to websites like Bharat Ke Veer due to international transaction logistics; 26,872 Indians living out of the country contributed to the fundraiser to make the sum total of Rs 7 crore.

Facebook did its bit by waiving off customary transaction fee from the amount that was collected via their fundraiser. It generally charges 2.5 to 3% fees on each contribution.

Consul General Sandeep Chakravorty from the Indian consulate in New York has promised Patel swift transfer of funds. Facebook is going to transfer funds to the American Indian Foundation and AIF will then transfer the fund to Bharat Ke Veer.
