Disputed property deal in Vadodara stayed by SSRD under Disturbed Areas Act

The controversial property deal between Vadodara’s industrialist Goradia family and Anand-based businessman Faisal Fazlani has been stayed by the Special Secretary Revenue Department (SSRD) of Gujarat Government on Wednesday.

Businesswoman Goradia sold the 15,000 sq ft property, located in Kesarbaug Society on Tandalja-Vasna Road, to Anand-based noted businessman Faisal Fazlani in August for Rs. 6 crore. The permission for the sale of the bungalow was granted by Vadodara district collector. However, after residents of the locality protested stating the property was sold in contravention of the Disturbed Areas Act, the sale deed was stayed by the SSRD.

The order by the SSRD came in a day after the residents met CM Vijay Rupani and other authorities of the state, wherein they also stated that the NOC given by the local authorities to carry forward the sale deed was illegal. More so, they also pointed out that property in Kesarbaug Society falls under provisions of the Disturbed Areas Act.

(Under the provisions of the Disturbed Areas Act, sale of a property to a Muslim in a Hindu-dominated area and vice-versa is not permitted until each immediate neighbour of such property consents to the deal.)
