Motor vehicles registrations in Vadodara witnessed a steep decline of 13.15 per cent in the year 2019.
The stats show that against a total of 1,45,628 vehicles registered in 2018, almost 1,26,471 vehicles were registered in 2019. Of this, 26,196 four-wheelers and 88,772 two-wheelers were added to the roads of Vadodara.
About 19,576 were registered in October 2019 alone. This sale can be contributed to the festival of Diwali as it is considered an auspicious time for buying automobile.
“One of the reasons for the steep decline of vehicle registration in 2019 was the recession witnessed by the automobile industry”, said an RTO official. More so, the drastic decline in car sales can also be due to dropping consumer sentiments primarily because of the economic slowdown in 2019. The increasing traffic jams and infrastructure of Vadodara may have also contributed to the decline of car sales in the city.
In December 2019, the Gujarat Government announced development of 7 new flyovers and better road conditions in Vadodara. However, citizens continue to face parking issues in vital areas of the city such as Old City, Alkapuri, and the likes.
