ACP provides details on Lakshmipura rape case

In a press briefing on the death by suicide of a 19-year-old resident at Lakshmipura, ACP Bakul Chaudhary shed some light on the rape case that happened on Tuesday, followed by the suicide of the victim on Thursday.

Dishant Deepak Kahar and Nazim Ismail, work colleagues from Cogent Service Pvt. Ltd., raped the 19-year-old after forcefully putting her under the influence of alcohol. The Police have lodged complaints, under IPC 324 and IPC 376, against the alleged perpetrators.

At the briefing, ACP said, “After investigating, we found out that at around 5 PM on June 8, Dishant and Azim had reached the victim’s flat with a bottle of alcohol. Later, after forcefully intoxicating her, Dishant raped her.” “The girl was taken to her parent’s place after her friend had arrived at the flat and had informed her parents about the incident,” they added. In the days that followed, on June 10, the rape victim died by suicide at her home in Lakshmipura.

After primary investigations, the Police were confident that the girl was raped. To emphasize the undertakings in the case, ACP added that the biological sample and details were taken, and interrogation of the prime accused was ongoing. Once the COVID19 tests complete, the accused would be detained and be put through further questioning, he said. However, ACP refrained from indulging in the details of the suicide note that was found near the body, citing that investigations were being undertaken in that regard.

Allegations about the Police responding only after the parents had refused to take the body were trashed by the ACP, saying that they were prompt in reacting to the complaint. At the time of print, the Postmortem report was due later on Friday.
