After textile merchants and stakeholders protested, Darshana Jardosh proposed to reduce the GST to 5%.

After a protest by textile merchants and stakeholders across the country, Union State Minister of Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh said they sent a recommendation to the finance minister and Prime Minister to modify the GST to 5%. There are being optimistic about a favorable outcome in this case.

“The hike comes from the GST council, which includes the Finance Ministers and Finance Secretaries of each state. The increase is to improve the inverted structure of 18% and is thus, preserved at 12%. However, several stakeholders argue that the increase will have an impact on clothing prices. We’ve sent a proposal to the finance minister as well as the Prime Minister, and we’re hoping for a favorable response,” Darshana Jardosh expressed her thoughts.
