After textile merchants and stakeholders protested, Darshana Jardosh proposed to reduce the GST to 5%.

After a protest by textile merchants and stakeholders across the country, Union State Minister of Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh said they sent a recommendation to the finance minister and Prime Minister to modify the GST to 5%. There are being optimistic about a favorable outcome in this case.

The minister was in Vadodara for the dedication of the rebuilt Vadodara Railway Station, which includes a variety of amenities for travelers, including divyang and senior persons. On the sidelines, she also discussed the request for an adjustment of the GST on textiles that have been sent.

“The hike comes from the GST council, which includes the Finance Ministers and Finance Secretaries of each state. The increase is to improve the inverted structure of 18% and is thus, preserved at 12%. However, several stakeholders argue that the increase will have an impact on clothing prices. We’ve sent a proposal to the finance minister as well as the Prime Minister, and we’re hoping for a favorable response,” Darshana Jardosh expressed her thoughts.

She mentioned that there was a protest when the 5% GST was adopted and that Arun Jaitley came up with a solution through negotiations and discussions at the time. The BJP believes in finding answers via dialogue, and the resolution will be delivered in the same manner this time.

The minister attends the 15-crore Vadodara Railway Station dedication ceremony. As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, 75 stations across the country are being redeveloped, with Vadodara station being one of them.

The station got developed at a cost of around 15 crores, with various amenities for passengers, including divyang and senior citizens, as well as a special room for pregnant women. She also announced an award of one lakh rupees for the Vadodara station.
