Aftermath of Vadodara floods: first case of leptospirosis detected

Post the heavy downpour on 31st July that crippled the lives of many in Vadodara, a Warasiya woman was tested positive for leptospirosis at Sayaji Hospital.

Chandrika Lohana (36), a resident of Warasiya, was admitted to Sayaji Hospital about 20 days back. After constant deterioration in health and similar symptoms to leptospirosis, Lohana’s pathological tests were conducted wherein the disease was detected. The officials sent the report to a hospital in Surat wherein it was confirmed.

This is the first case of leptospirosis that was detected in Vadodara. Officials said that her other symptoms were minor, however, her liver and kidney are affected. It is believed that she may have caught the infection due to being exposed to a contaminated source during the heavy rains that lashed the city.

The hospital has informed the VMC so that they can take the necessary steps to prevent the disease from spreading further.
