In a groundbreaking move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone on August 6, 2023, by laying the foundation stone for the transformation of 508 railway stations nationwide. This ambitious undertaking falls under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an investment exceeding Rs. 24,470 crores, encompassing 21 stations from the state of Gujarat.

An eventful ceremony was hosted at Pratapnagar railway station, graced by the presence of MP Ranjan Bhatt, Chief Whip Balkrishna Shukla, Mayor Nilesh Rathod, MLAs, Deputy Mayor Nanda Joshi, DRM Jitendra Singh, Vadodara District Collector AB Gor, and other dignitaries. The occasion featured a lively folk dance and Ganesh Vandana’s performance by students.

The master plans envision these stations as ‘City Centres,’ harmoniously integrating both sides of the city. Redesigned with the essence of Indian diversity, the stations will offer state-of-the-art passenger amenities and upgraded facilities. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisions seamless access through the removal of unnecessary structures, improved lighting, better circulation areas, upgraded parking facilities, disability-friendly infrastructure, and environmentally conscious designs using green energy.

Across 27 states and union territories, a total of 508 stations are slated for transformation, including substantial representation in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Karnataka, among others. This sweeping initiative not only promises improved railway infrastructure but also underscores the nation’s commitment to progress and inclusivity.
