Under the guidance of District Election Officer and Collector Shalini Agarwal and following the special instructions of the State Election Commission, the District Health System made great efforts to collect and safely dispose of bio-medical waste at every polling station of District and Taluka Panchayats as well as Municipalities.
To avoid the possibility of a COVID-19 transmission, an arrangement was made for each voter to wear a glove in the hand they were using to press the button of the voting machine. Additional Chief Health Officer, Dr. Uday Tilawat said that at each polling station were given a bucket and a required number of bags to dispose of the used hand glove.
The facility was provided with the intention of disposing of used masks, face shields, hand gloves, kits used by COVID-19 positive person and staff, in the bucket.
The health staff emptied the bucket in a packet from time to time and took it in a vehicle to the nearest hospital. This operation was continued till the polling ended. The waste was then picked up from government hospitals by a designated agency.
The operation was carried out by the health staff as a precautionary measure against Covid infection. As a result, safe disposal of hand socks, masks, and others generated at the polling station was made possible.
The District Election Officer has commended the health staff for making the polls fearless by continuing this vigilant work with safety to prevent the possibility of infection.
