Wadhwana lake situated near Dabhoi is a famous spot for tourists to visit in winter because of various different migratory birds who visit the lake to enjoy their winters. This winter, more than 95,461 rice birds of about 163 species visited Wadhwana to enjoy the warm winter. Bombay Natural History Society, the wildlife department used the technical observation method to count the birds three times in the season. Mr. HD Raulji, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Department, Vadodara stated under Mr. LM Meena, Deputy Forest Conservator’s instructions Dr. Bhavik Patel and Dr. Dishant Parasharya conducted the survey.
For more accurate and reliable data collection the survey was divided into three phases at the beginning of the season (early, mid and late winter), in December, January, and February the birds were calculated by dividing the entire reservoir area into different sectors to get as accurate bird estimates as possible. In the current season, there are more than 3 thousand birds on the shores of Wadhwana.
The various teams of enumerators, including the detailed scrutiny of the submission of the observation forms, have finally concluded that more than 95,461 birds have come here this year to enjoy the warm winter here. Around 163 species have visited Wadhwana this year.
