Clashes over Dashama idol immersion between devotees and Police

For years, Dashama idols have been immersed in lakes at midnight. However, this year the administration asked everyone to immerse the idols at their own homes.

On late Wednesday night, clashes broke out between police and the youth Congress and NSUI leaders in front of Siddharth Lake, Painter Tanaji’s lane in the city when they were going to place the Dashama idols at Navapura Dashama’s Vav. About 15 Congress workers, including Amit Ghotikar, Devang Thakor and Mitesh Thakor were detained by the Navapura police.

Team Revolution also faced the same thing when they were headed to place idols at Navlakhi ground. Raopura police arrested Jai Thakor, Sonu More, Dirghash Bochre, Sunny Pawar. Opposition leader Chandrakant Srivastava also reached Navlakhi Maidan and controlled the situation. Police collected the idols and settled the case.

The idols were placed by the police at Kapurai Chokdi and were finally not allowed to be immersed. This lead to despair in devotees. Activist Arvind Sindha said that they were going to take 600 idols of Dashama from Diwalipura area to immerse them in Mahisagar river. If they are not allowed then they would go to Kavi Kamboi and immerse the idols in the sea. Municipal Councilor Rajesh Ayre said that Jai Hind Group has planned to immerse the remaining idols.

So far 8,000 idols have been immersed in the Mahisagar river at the Sindhrot check dam.
