Corona Warriors share their recovery stories- Part 1

Coronavirus outbreak took the world by its storm and left behind piles of bodies and which gave rise to panic. While panicking was an obvious reaction, there were many myths and fake news on the internet and gradually when COVID entered one’s own society/county/locality, it came with a stigma rooted in the myths and panic and insensitivity.

While the world still waits for a vaccine, many people have shared their experiences about the novel virus. Vadodara is still witnessing a constant rise in the cases. But the focus of this article will be only on a few of the positive recovery stories of corona survivors.

Recovery Story 1 (Common Man) –

Hello, I want to share the story about how my father Sunil Shukla recovered from this fatal disease called COVID-19. He was in the hospital for 52 days and still recovering at home. On the 22nd June, 2020 he was admitted to the SSG hospital due to symptoms of corona and one more disease pneumonia. On 23rd June, 2020 he tested covid positive. After 3 – 4 days in the general covid ward his breathing problem was critical so he was shifted to ICU ward. His condition was very critical because of this and he was diagnosed with secondary stage pneumonia. Then, in the ICU ward he was on the bipap machine for almost 15 days. His lungs were infected very badly from pneumonia. After few days he recovered but was on oxygen support. On the 26th day i.e 17th July, 2020, he was tested covid negative and shifted to the general ward for further treatment. The story doesn’t end here. After this fight against Covid, he had to fight secondary staged pneumonia. In general ward I met him after so many days. Obviously he had lost weight due to weakness. He was still on oxygen support and having a complete bed rest. My mother and I were attendees for him through out day and night after being shifted to general ward. Gradually, he started recovering. After many days his oxygen support was lifted and he was kept under observation. He tried to walk without any support. Doctors told us that his condition was very crucial to the extreme level that he fought with death at that time. His lungs were highly infected and after whole treatment he has recovered to this extent is a very good sign because of his will power and luck. On the 53rd day i.e 13th August, 2020, he was discharged and came back home and he is still resting and recovering. He is with us because he fought with this disease bravely.

But, I cannot forget to thank doctors, nurses and helping hands of SSG hospital who are the main heroes for this great recovery. They are working around the clock tirelessly without any complaint for each and every patient. Huge respect and hats off to them for their selfless work.

Thank you.
Harshil Shukla

Recovery Story 2 (Doctor) –

I was tested positive for Corona Virus in the month of May 2020. As I was asymptomatic, I opted for Home Isolation for 21 days. Since I’m a Homoeopathic Physician, I resumed my routine and clinic after 21 days. But while I was recovering under home isolation, I decided to donate my convalescent plasma to the COVID patients. I donated my plasma for the first time on 3rd July 2020 at Indu Blood Bank. I donated plasma for the second time on 2nd August 2020 at Bhailal Amin General Hospital. With the permission of the authorities, I shot an Awareness Video highlighting the whole procedure of plasma donation so that a positive message is sent to all recovered COVID patients to donate plasma. For donating plasma two times and creating awareness about plasma donation, I was awarded a certificate of Corona Warrior on the Independence Day event by VMC. I have decided to donate the plasma for the third time also. I can share the link of the Awareness Video with you. Thanks.

Recovery story 3 (Nurse) –

I am a staff nurse at Gotri General Hospital. After 30 days of corona duty, I had a few symptoms of coronavirus. I had tested positive but mentally I become more positive. Only I knew about my report, no one from the family was aware of this.
2/7/2020 early morning I decided to get admitted to the hospital, then I informed my parents, my husband. I know it is a mentally challenging situation. Every day I faced a new challenge. After 8 days I tested negative and then I was discharged. But a new problem came up. My Society. They were opposing my stay at home despite my negative report. However, my husband opposed them. But the situation was unbelievable. I had to call on the Nirbhaya helpline and the society people even opposed them. Finally, the situation became normal. And today I am doing my job again. I am proud to be a corona warrior and ready for the fight against it again.
