Corporation to stop releasing bovines on festivalsVadodara Municipal Corporation is considering to stop releasing confined cattle on festival days as a tradition. The corporation had been doing this since long without charging any administrative charges.
They used to release cattle on Uttrayan and Janmashtami. In order to curb the menace caused by the animals, they have come up with a proposal of not releasing any cattle during festivals.
VMC already has cattle ponds in the city which accommodates 700 to 800 cattle. If there are more bovines than VMC sends them to cattle shelters or ‘panjarpoles’ near the city. Animals which are mostly not claimed by anyone are sent there.
On further information revealed by VMC, they’ve stated that civic bodies of Rajkot and Surat have no tradition of releasing cattle without charging any fines or administrative charges on festivals. It was followed by Ahmedabad Corporation which now didn’t release any cattle during Janmashtami.
With respect to the situation elsewhere, they have come up with a proposal of stopping to release bovine cattle on streets. The proposal has been put before the standing committee and is expected to take up the issue.
To bring a steady end to it, they had released just 100 bovines this year as a formal nod is awaited for completely abolishing this practice.
