Statue of Unity at Kevadia colony is the world’s biggest statue made in the memory of Iron man of India- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It was set open for public on 31st October 2018, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. Since then, it has become one of the major tourist attractions of India, catering to thousands of tourists everyday.
In wake of COVID-19 spread in India, Gujarat Government has decided to stop taking online bookings for Statue of Unity till 25th March as a part of avoiding social gatherings at public places. It is estimated that more than 32 Lakh tourists have visited SoU since its inauguration.
Similar decisions at other tourist places in India such as Taj Mahal and renowned temples like Siddhivinayak Temple and Shirdi have been taken to avoid gatherings in public. Gujarat Government has asked schools, educational institutes, multiplex and Halls to shut down till 29th March.
Hotels, restaurants and party plots are advised not to host large functions and even Corporates have cancelled their conferences and workshops.
“Not a single case of COVID-19 has been found positive so far in the state,” said Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Gujarat.
