Cycling through the 16 countries in less than 290 days

Lloyd Collier and Louis Snellgrove

We all dream of touring the circumference of the globe with the aid of sheer luxury but there are people who execute travelling on the medium of just cycling!
Llyod Edward Collier and Louis Paul Snellgrove are two Australians who are on the journey to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by Tandem bicycle. The whole agenda behind the cycling tour is to raise money for respective charities Spinal Research and the Brain Foundation. The entire challenge is wholly funded by them and all the money donated will go to charity.
The duo is cycling through 16 countries of four continents to experience the hardships of different seasons, cultures and languages. They aim to travel the minimum distance of 18,000 miles (28,970 km) by bicycle. They’ll be travelling through two antipodal points which are chosen as Madrid and Wellington. They’re covering countries like China, Mongolia, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Morocco, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Azerbaijan, France, Japan, USA, New Zealand, Slovenia and Italy.
They are spending their nights in the tents. The whole journey will be a mix of hard challenges and fun encounters with the locals.
Lloyd and Louis aged 28 and 30 respectively are originally from the United Kingdom and are medical practitioners as emergency doctors at the Townsville Hospital of Australia.
Currently, the duo was in Vadodara as part of the India tour. The team of Our Vadodara interacted with them where they told us about their experience in India. As per them, India is a vivacious country with inquisitive people at every nooks and corner of the city. They are overwhelmed by the crowd and its hustle bustle and are in complete awe of the food it offers. The smell of curry and its different flavours were something totally new to them which they had tried at places of Kerala and Mumbai.
“India is a busy place with intense heat and food!” the duo chuckled.
Being an English speaker in the country of Hindi dialects is a hindrance for day to day communication. But Lloyd and Louis successfully encountered the hardships by installing language translating apps to make their conversations with the locals smooth.
They enjoyed their stay in the city by visiting various places of interests like the palace, gardens and the auditorium.
Our Vadodara asked them about the roads, to which they gave us an obvious reply by focusing on the potholes and unruly carpets of bitumen on it. Because of which they had difficulty in commuting through their tandem cycle. They also advised citizens on the importance of road safety by sharing an anecdote. When they were traveling through Kerala, one of the drivers tried to click a selfie with them while driving his vehicle, he lost his control and eventually hit them. Fortunately, they had a narrow escape from the accident.
The cyclists are on the tour with lots of hope for raising charity from around the world.
