The Deputy Commissioner of Police of Vadodara, Saroj Kumari has won the ‘Woman in Unifrom’ category of the Woman Icons of India award and she will be felicitated by Tamil Nadu governor Shri Banwari Lal Purohit on 2nd March for the same. Shri Banwari Lal Purohit is the honorary chief guest at the Woman Icons of India award ceremony which will take place in Chennai on 2nd March.
DCP Saroj Kumari has got this award for her campaign Samajh Sparsh Ki, which helped sensitize children about the dos and don’ts of sexual harassment.
Saroj Kumari had established a team of 12 policewomen, who were trained in gender sensitization to speak to about 50,000 kids aged between years 5 and 15 in 20 different schools in Vadodara. The team helped the kids become aware of sexual abuse as a preventive measure of future crimes.
Saroj Kumari has the distinction for working for the betterment of sex workers in Botad district where she helped them earn a livelihood by making them learn domestic work like tailoring.
