Expansion work at Surat Airport nearing 94 percent completion

The construction of the terminal building at Surat Airport is close to completion, at an expenditure of 138.48 crores. Simultaneously, progress is being made on the parallel taxi track, which is being constructed at a cost of 63.13 crores, and the construction of an adjacent canopy to the terminal building, costing 15.57 crores, is also underway. These developments will significantly enhance the facilities at Surat Airport.

Additionally, the apron extension and parallel taxi track work are reported to have been 72 percent complete, according to Surat Airport Authority. Once the upgrades are finalized, the terminal building will accommodate up to 1800 passengers during peak hours, boasting five aerobridges, five baggage carousels, and ample passenger space with various amenities.

Efforts are swiftly advancing to transform Surat into an international airport. The new terminal building project, valued at 3,353.25 crores, is progressing rapidly and is currently in its final stage, with 94% of the work already finished.

It’s worth noting that the work is being expedited due to the approaching monsoon season in June. Taking this into account, the airport expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of July. The construction of Surat Airport’s terminal has faced delays in the past, including interruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the work has now resumed, aiming to swiftly conclude the remaining tasks.
