FIR registered against 3 people for the Jubilee Baug building collapse

A week after a four-storeyed building collapse behind Jubilee Baug, an offense was registered by the police against the contractor and the owners of the neighboring land where the foundation of the building was being dug.

An FIR was filed by Deepak Banani, who owned a garment shop on the ground floor of the building claiming he suffered massive losses in his business and garment worth Rs 50 lakh were lost and damage to furniture and his shop cost him a total of Rs 42 lakh.

Setul Gandhi and Ritesh Gandhi, the owners of the neighboring land, and Lalabhai, the contractor had been warned not to dig too deep to weaken the foundation of his building but they did not pay any attention to Banani’s words.

The police have registered a case of endangering the life and personal safety of more than 12 workers who escaped by the skin of their teeth before the building fell.
