As citizens are setting in their festive moods, the Food Safety Department of the Health Department of Vadodara Seva Sadan will be conducting inspection rounds at farsan and sweet shops in different areas of Vadodara. The inspection drive is to ensure the sweets and edibles are pure and safe for consumption.
The Food Safety Department team has been collecting samples of various food items for detailed laboratory analysis.
According to available information, three teams of the Food Safety Department checked sweet and farsan businesses on Friday morning on the orders of Mukesh Vaidya, Health Officer of Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan (VMSS).
In 15 small and large stores, including the well-known farsan sweet shops in Sayajigunj and Alkapuri, one crew is carrying out the inspection. Two more teams are conducting shop checks in the Manjalpur and Fatehganj areas.
Previously during the festival, samples of food and other things failed to pass testing, prompting complaints under the Food Safety Act against retailers.
It is to be mentioned that the festive season is about to begin and this delayed food checking by the VMC Health Department raises questions, as the report takes at least 15 days after taking the sample, by then the festival will have already begun.
