The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) stands as a formidable guardian, ensuring the safety of critical assets and infrastructure. As we approach the 55th CISF Raising Day on March 10th, it’s a moment to reflect on the journey of this paramilitary force, its crucial role in safeguarding the nation, and the various ways it celebrates this significant day.
About the CISF
The CISF, established under the CISF Act, 1968, emerged to meet the increasing need for specialized security forces in industries and critical sectors. Headquartered in New Delhi and falling under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the CISF has grown into one of the largest security forces in the country, with a strength of over 1.6 lakh personnel. The CISF is organized into six fractions: Northern, Southern, Western, Eastern, and North-Eastern.
Nina Singh IPS, is the current Director General of the CISF. She is the first woman to head the CISF, as appointed by the Centre. She will hold this position until July 31, this year.
Tasked with securing industrial centers, state-funded projects, and public sector undertakings, the CISF’s responsibilities extend to protecting crucial points like airports, nuclear power plants, sea ports, oil refineries, and mines.
Notably, the force plays a pivotal role in disaster management, with its Fire Wing standing as the largest among all fire services in the country.
