GBS Survivor Yashvi Patel Passes 12th Exam with Determination and Family Support

Yashvi Patel, a 19-year-old 12th grade student from Vadodara, has successfully passed her 12th board exam after battling Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) with the support of her parents. GBS is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the nerves of the body, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis. Yashvi was diagnosed with GBS in 2021, and she was on a ventilator for 78 days during the initial stage of her illness. However, she managed to regain strength in her body after undergoing regular physiotherapy sessions and with her strong willpower.

Yashvi, who aspires to become an engineer, studied for two months before her illness struck. When she regained strength in her hands, she decided to appear in the 12th board exam as a repeater and wrote the paper on her own after four months of preparation. Although she faced difficulty due to the lack of strength in her hands, she passed the exam with the help of her parents.

Yashvi gives credit to her parents for their unwavering support during her recovery from the disease. Her father, Shailesh Patel, is a TV technician, and her mother, Jayashree, is a homemaker. Being a lower-middle-class family, they faced many challenges, including financial difficulties, during Yashvi’s treatment. However, with the help of their relatives and by using their fixed deposit, they managed to get their only daughter back to normal.

Yashvi’s mother shared that Yashvi’s recovery and achievement are commendable. Even though she did not get the desired result due to her slow writing, her efforts are admirable. Yashvi is still undergoing physiotherapy sessions, and her parents hope that she recovers fully soon.
