Sanjaybhai Bhikhabhai Patanwadia a resident of Malharpura village in Dabhoi taluka, was working as a clerk in the Panigate office of GEB. Despite paying Rs 7 lakh against capital of Rs 3 lakh, the lenders pressurised him for capital and interest. Sanjay Patanwadia could not bear the increasing harassment and died by suicide.
According to the family, Sanjay, who was caught in the trap of lenders had also tried to sell his Tarsali slum quarters house to get rid of their harassment. His wife said that on Thursday evening her husband told her about going to show the house to a buyer. Meanwhile, he died by suicide in the Tarsali slum quarters.
She further said that her husband was working in GEB with a salary of Rs. 50,000 and had borrowed money from the lenders. She alleged that in spite of paying Rs 7 lakh against the capital of Rs 3 lakh, the lenders were pressurizing for capital and interest. Her husband was in debt up to Rs 1 crore and died by suicide as he did not want to suffer from the harassment of lenders. She demanded strict action against those responsible to save the others from having the same fate.
Makarpura police have registered the case and are further investigating the case.
