Good news for AYUSHMAN beneficiaries in Gujarat: health insurance coverage under PMJAY has been expanded

In a major development for the citizens of Gujarat, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) has expanded its health insurance coverage for Ayushman cardholders. As of today, Ayushman cardholders in the state are eligible for a revised coverage of Rs. 10 lakhs, in addition to the existing coverage of Rs. 5 lakhs.

To announce and inaugurate this development, a meeting was held at the Gandhinagar office of Gujarat MoHFW Rushikesh Patel, with representatives from Bajaj Insurance Company. The meeting was attended by important high officials including the Principal Secretary of the Health Department Manoj Agarwal, Commissioner Shahmina Husain, Director of the National Health Mission (N.H.M.) Dr. Remya, and officials associated with the Ayushman Yojana, Dr. Jain and Dr. Anand.

Following the successful meeting, Rushikesh Patel formally launched the revised health insurance assistance of Rs. 10 lakhs under the Ayushman card scheme. The expanded coverage will include surgeries such as heart, kidney, liver, and uterus transplants, as well as cochlear implants and other intricate medical procedures. This extended benefit will now be easily accessible to beneficiaries under the Ayushman Yojana, thereby, also improving the health and well-being of cardholders and their families.

Gujarat currently boasts of a large network of healthcare providers, with a total of 2,847 hospitals, including 2,471 empaneled hospitals  actively participating in the Ayushman card scheme. These hospitals offer a wide range of healthcare procedures and services to cardholders, ensuring proper and timely medical support.

During the meeting, discussions were also held between the representatives of Bajaj Company and officials from the Health Department regarding various important matters such as:

  •  bank integration
  • strengthening real-time data tracking
  • enhancing the operations of the anti-fraud agency
  • developing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hospital management
  • preparing detailed FAQs for the scheme.

The Ayushman card scheme is being successfully implemented in Gujarat, with a total of 2,027 government and 803 private hospitals being managed under the central government’s guidance. This ensures that beneficiaries have access to quality healthcare services across the state.

What is the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)?

PM Modi launched the PMJAY scheme in 2018. This nationwide scheme provides health coverage of Rs. 5 lakhs to eligible individuals and families. The Gujarat government has adopted and implemented this scheme to ensure that citizens of Gujarat received quality healthcare services.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel extended the PMJAY card scheme as it now provides a  health assistance of Rs. 10 lakhs to beneficiaries, ensuring comprehensive coverage and improved healthcare outcomes for the people of Gujarat.

In conclusion, the expansion of health insurance coverage under PMJAY represents a major milestone in Gujarat’s efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability.
