DGP Ashish Bhatia said the Corona cases are increasing in the state and authorities will take action if the cases surge in the coming days. During the lockdown, they implemented the rules strictly and then gave relaxation after unlocking and made rules like wearing a mask, sanitize and social distancing compulsory.
After Diwali as the cases increased they implemented the rules strictly and managed to control the situation. After public relaxation, the cases increased and the police collected fines from people for not wearing masks. Again as the cases surge they will increase enforcement and plan the strategy accordingly. He requested people to follow guidelines on their own and helped the police to maintain law and order. He also said that there will be no public celebration for Dhuleti and strictly implementing the rules.
DGP attend the inauguration of Child-Friendly Corner at Harni Police Station, a “People-oriented campaign” in the form of a bridge approach between people and the police and a program on “Return of Property Lost by Citizens”. He said there will be a child-friendly corner at every police station. As they oversee 33% of women recruitment, the corner will help them to do their duties. Also, the corner will give space to the under 18 victims and also juveniles to avoid mixing them with normal criminals.
He said, missing children is the focus area for them. In Gujarat, 2,300 missing cases are on record from 2007, and to date, they have found 95% of the missing children. The CID, local police along with the anti-human trafficking unit is engaged to search for the missing children. However, there are few AHTU units in Gujarat. Now in the recent budget, it has been proposed to start the units in 22 districts.
As the state saw cases of suicides in recent time, DGP said, a helpline is already there and the teams reached the spot after someone called on the number. Also, they have the data which helps them to understand and study the case and take remedial measures.
Earlier DGP Ashish Bhatia remains present at the inauguration ceremony of the 27th DGP Cricket Cup and T20 Cup at Pratapnagar police headquarters. He himself showed his batting skills on the pitch. He said, we all have to live in new normal and the tournament is to improve the skills as well as physical fitness of the force. In terms of police welfare, the department is spreading to other areas like scholarship and other facilities. He was briefed about the new initiative by the police to return the stolen items to the complainants. This is to increase the detection and recovery areas and create a sense of belief in people.
In the end, the DGP visited the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Police Bhavan at Jail Road. He attended Bhumi Pujan of Vadodara City “She” Team Counseling and Training Center and was briefed by Commissioner Dr. Samsher Singh about the activities carried out by the teams.
