The Sayaji Hospital and Baroda Medical College’s pediatrics department was named best in the Guj Pedicon ’21 in Surat and received the honor of being the finest pediatric department among the state’s Department of Government Hospitals and Medical Colleges.
Sayaji Hospital, Gujarat’s largest government hospital, and Baroda Medical College have added another feather to their cap with the addition of a pediatrics section.
The department was named best among the government pediatric institutes of the state by Gujpedicon 2021, a state council of pediatricians created by the Academy of Pediatrics, a state organization of pediatricians. Professor Dr. Sheila Iyer and her colleagues accepted the honor on Sunday in Surat.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Ranjan Krishna Aiyar expressed his gratitude for the prize, saying that the Head Of the Department, Dr. Sheela, presented the report of the pediatric department’s complete and child health protection work at this conference with the support of 70 slides. He praised the department’s dedicated doctors and health workers for their efforts.
Dr. Sheela stated, “During the pandemic, we managed to provide safe treatment to potential pediatric patients, and we have now made the necessary isolation arrangements given the risk of omicron.”
She highlighted the belief, that their department, is responsible for the overall health of children from infants to adolescents and works to teach excellent pediatrics.
Every day, 80 to 100 pediatric patients receive OPD benefits. The department provides daily pediatric vaccination and nutrition counseling services.
On Monday, the ‘Well Baby Clinic’, for newborns under the age of three, as well as the Epilepsy Clinic, Nephrology Clinic, Asthma Clinic, and Adolescent Friendly Clinic for various pediatric disorders, are held as part of neonatal care. Our department has all of the required lifesaving equipment, including a state-of-the-art NICU/PICU.
She stated that its benefits are being employed to treat pediatric patients not just in Vadodara city and district, but also in other districts and districts in neighboring states. She commended the department’s doctors, nursing sisters, and health staff for their contributions, to the honor.
This department-run Hematology Clinic provides intensive care for children with sickle cell and thalassemia. The PICU of the Department of Pediatrics is the only government hospital in the state with a hemodialysis unit. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been designated as a State Center of Excellence.
Intensive care of sickle cell and thalassemia children is done in this department-run hematology clinic. This is the only government hospital in the state to have a hemodialysis facility in the PICU of the Department of Pediatrics The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) has got accorded the status of State Center of Excellence.
This department is in charge of managing moms’ milk-mom for newborns who are unable to breastfeed due to a variety of factors. Breast milk is safely taken from women who are breastfeeding more than their infants require using this approach and provided to the children following several tests and pasteurizations.
The equipment facility requirements have been met by reputable incorporated units. Crompton recently donated Rs. 1 crore in state-of-the-art medical instruments, and Indotherm donated Rs 12 lakhs in equipment as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. While a gift from the MLA has provided equipment worth Rs.10 lakhs, which would improve treatment effectiveness.
