Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) Streamline Ticket Checking Process for Western Railway, Benefit RAC Passengers

Over 42,000 passengers traveling on Western Railway trains have benefitted from the complete implementation of Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) by all 1383 ticket checking staff. The device has replaced physical paper charts, making ticket checking a paperless process. As a result, the allotment of berths to passengers with Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) is done sequentially in the reservation charts.

Vacant berths are not allotted to other passengers, thereby benefiting RAC passengers. In the last week alone, 21,453 RAC passengers were allotted berths, and 21,222 berths were released through HHT to stations ahead. The HHTs have also made the refund process faster and more efficient, eliminating the need for verification at the destination station. The physical chart printing has been stopped, saving paper and helping the environment.

Additionally, HHTs provide real-time information about the number of passengers traveling and the number of berths available on any train. Overall, the workload for physical verification of charts has been reduced, and the refund process has been shortened. Western Railway’s adoption of HHTs is a step forward in their commitment to digital advancements in the Indian railway system.
