Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched a nation-wide COVID-19 vaccination drive via video-conferencing today. “Normally, it takes many years to make a vaccine but in such a short span of time, not one, but two ‘Made in India’ vaccines are ready. Meanwhile, the work on other vaccines is progressing at a fast pace”, said PM Narendra Modi. He appealed to everyone to not make the mistake of taking off the mask and not maintaining social distance after getting the first dose because immunity will develop after the second dose. Such a vaccination drive at such a massive scale was never conducted in history. In the second phase, the numbers might be taken to 30 crores.
A total of 3,00,000 healthcare workers will be vaccinated using 2 Made in India vaccines- Covaxin and Covishield. The vaccine drive is to cover all Indian States and Union Territories.
In Vadodara too the vaccination drive has begun. COVID-19 vaccine is to be provided first to the health-workers at 10 centers of Vadodara and every health center will vaccinate around 100 health workers mentioned District Collector Shalini Agarwal.
One vial has 10 doses and it has to be preserved in 2-8 degree celsius temperature said the Superintendent of SSG Hospital, Rajan Iyer. He added that the fluid is transparent, but if it becomes non-transparent then it has to be discarded. The syringe is a self-loading insulin that can load a 0.5ml dose. He further said that the vaccine is intra-muscular and has to be injected into the deltoid muscle. Post that, the patient is kept for half an observation for anticipatory side effects.
The adverse effects of the vaccine can be- dizziness, skin rashes, nausea/vomiting, stomach discomfort. Till now no side effects were reported, but they are also taking a follow-up. Experts have said that there should be a gap of one month between both vaccinations.
The training of the nurses was intensive as they had to ensure they don’t come directly in contact with it and maintain all the guidelines. Sapna Shah is the first lady nurse to inject the first vaccine to Hemant Mathur, the Additional Superintendent of Sayaji Hospital and Head of the Orthopedic Department.
