Nyay Mandir will now house a police station.
After housing the court for 120 years, Nyay Mandir finally closed its doors as a courthouse in March 2018 when the district courthouse shifted to a new court premises in Diwalipura.
Nyay Mandir was previously used as a prestigious theatre that used to stage plays and dramas.
After that, the historic monument with Byzantine architecture has since then been home to the district court in Vadodara for the last 120 years since 2018. The building is spread over 4 acres and has a facade made of Italian marble tiles.
It has been closed since then and was going to be turned into a museum till the police department said that they wanted to use it as an office premise. The building is under the purview of DWD and collector office and they have now agreed that it will house of a police station.
Since the building holds great heritage value, we hope there is a proper preservation process to maintain the building when it becomes a fully functioning police station.
